MISSOULA, Montana - Montana State’s Cinderella dance through the 2008 Big Sky Conference tournament came to an end with a 101-65 loss to Montana, Saturday evening in front of 5,016 spectators in Dahlberg Arena.
After upsetting Idaho State in the semifinals and defeating a scrappy Northern Arizona squad on Thursday, the Bobcats ran out of gas.
“I’m taking nothing away from the Griz. They shot lights-out,” said MSU head coach Tricia Binford. “I think our tanks were empty. With all the adversity we had to overcome this season, three nights really took a toll.”
Montana State (18-13) jumped out to an early 11-3 lead following a Jenny Heringer field-goal, and it looked like the Bobcats might have enough fumes left to get to the finish line.
However, Montana (25-6) connected on six consecutive three-pointers to blow the game open. The Lady Griz held a 49-31 advantage at intermission.
Montana State was paced in the loss by Krislyn Wallace, who notched her fourth double-double of the season with 17 points and 12 rebounds. For her efforts, she was named to the Big Sky Conference All-Tournament team.
Also gaining league kudos was sophomore point-guard Erica Perry, who finished with 11 points, five assists and two steals.
Senior Rebecca Mercer (Perth) also hit double-digits with 11 points, giving her 24 straight double-figure scoring games. Full Story
